Live Sessions

Description

  • There were a total of seven Zoom live sessions in our 2021 program, with one each week on Sunday and two additional sessions during the first week.

  • The Zoom sessions served as an overview and broad introduction of the topic of the week. The goal of these sessions was to give attendees a glimpse of a particular field/topic in advanced mathematics.

  • More theory and problem-solving was covered throughout the week in the reading groups.

  • All the live sessions covered different material and were independent of one another. We encouraged students to attend all three Zoom sessions in the first week, and then pick the ones they were interested in the following weeks.

  • Everyone eligible for the GirlsxMRO program was welcome to attend our Zoom live sessions whether or not they had the recommended mathematical background.

  • After each Zoom live session, we released optional problem sets for students to think about afterwards. There were office hours on Mondays and Thursdays for students to ask questions about the problem sets or just chat with the mentors!

Office Hours

Office hours happened every Monday from 7/5/21 to 7/19/21 at 8:00-9:00 AM PST/11:00 AM-12:00 PM EDT and every Thursday from 7/01/21 to 7/22/21 at 3:00-4:00 PM PST/6:00-7:00 PM EDT.

During office hours, mentors were available to talk on a Zoom call. This was a chance to ask any question on the materials covered during the live Zoom sessions or ask for hints on the optional problem sets. This was also a chance to chat with us mentors! We were happy to answer any questions regarding the GirlsxMRO program or math in general as well as share our experiences in math!

Office hours were independent from the reading groups. Questions on materials from a reading group were answered during the reading group meetings.
