Program

GirlsxMRO's summer program run over Zoom and Discord. Our program has two main parts, live Zoom sessions and reading groups, through which we introduce girls and non-binary students to a variety of advanced math topics, including Algebraic Combinatorics, Abstract Algebra, and Set Theory/Topology.

These topics are not usually taught in the classroom or found in math contests, and yet they form the foundations of entire fields of mathematics and research, which is why we believe it is important to explore these topics early on. These topics are incredibly extensive and quite advanced, so our goal is not to teach these students a large amount of theory. Instead, we hope to give them a glimpse of the world of advanced math beyond what they have already been exposed to as well as a starting point to study these topics on their own if they are interested.

The live Zoom sessions serve as an introduction and overview of their weekly topic. Over the course of the week following this lecture, students will have a guided opportunity to dive deeper into the topic by participating in the reading group. The reading groups are a central part of GirlsxMRO's program because reading advanced mathematical literature is a core skill in taking advanced math courses as well as conducting mathematical research
